CUWMC Fall 2024 Analysts,
Welcome to PWM Pathway, the curriculum specifically created for the Columbia Undergraduate Wealth Management Club (CUWMC). This flagship course serves as a comprehensive guide for new analysts, covering everything you need to know about:
- Â private wealth management as a career,Â
- Â the recruiting process,Â
- Â the industry landscape, andÂ
- Â the fundamentals of investingÂ
Whether you ultimately pursue a career in wealth management, or another field such as investment banking or consulting, the foundational knowledge you gain here about investing and the business models of financial institutions will be invaluable.
This landing page will serve as your central hub throughout the onboarding process, which will run until the end of October 2024.
Over the next four weeks, we will meet in person every Saturday to review course material, gain hands-on experience with investing, and collaborate within your teams across the three main groups—Investment Management, Financial Planning, and Private Banking.
These pathways represent distinct segments of the private wealth management career track, providing a comprehensive view of the industry.
By the end of onboarding, you’ll be prepared to teach and present the basics of investing and the wealth management career path to your peers and classmates at Columbia. As a result, you will become a valuable resource for your peers, many of whom are mostly unfamiliar with personal finance.
Additionally, this course offers benefits that reach beyond your professional development. As you move through the curriculum, you’ll acquire the knowledge necessary to manage your own money. These capabilities will not only prepare you to be an informed investor before you begin your full-time jobs but also help you become a responsible steward of any potential future inheritance.
Get ready to embark on a journey that will lay the foundation for both your career success and personal financial well-being.
To your success,
Kyle Shrader — President, Columbia Undergraduate Wealth Management Club

First Semester: Onboarding and Collaboration
Your first semester in CUWMC will focus on onboarding and collaboration as we welcome 12 new analysts each semester. This is a time to familiarize yourself with the club’s activities and start building strong relationships within your team. During this semester, your workload will be light, with just one presentation requirement per group. The emphasis will be on teamwork, getting to know your fellow analysts, and laying a solid foundation for the work ahead.
Second Semester: Deep Dive and Deliverables
In your second semester, the focus shifts to a deeper dive into your subject matter and delivering on key projects. Each team will be responsible for at least two presentations, applying the knowledge gained in the first semester to more complex topics. The workload will increase, but this is your opportunity to demonstrate your expertise and make meaningful contributions to the club’s success.
Building Relationships and Having Fun
CUWMC isn’t just about work—it’s also about building lasting relationships and enjoying your time at Columbia. Expect group dinners at places like Fogo de Chão, outings, and events with other finance clubs, including formals and social gatherings. We’ll also have site visits to financial institutions and host panels on campus featuring alumni and top wealth managers from Wall Street. These experiences will be both educational and enjoyable, blending learning with plenty of fun.
